CORSE
2004

The 15th of July 2004, a group of instructors and experienced sea kayakers of
Sottocosta (Italian Association for the Diffusion of Sea Kayak Culture)
will reach Corse to circumnavigate the french island. The idea is called “CORSE
2004 - KAYAK EXPEDITION”. The
Project
The CORSE 2004
KAYAK EXPEDITION, has two main objectives: 1) The exploration of Corse
coasts, circumnavigating the island with single sea kayaks; 2) the
documentation of a simple way to travel almost without impact on the
environment. In a second
phase, after the circumnavigation, a tour of the island will be done:
trekking, diving and short navigation to collect images of a unknown Corse. The expedition is
composed of a group of experienced kayakers, photographers and cine-operators
because the project aim is also the production of pictures and videos to
pubblish articles, short TV interviews and conferences and a documentary on
“Traveling with a sea kayak”. Some of these pictures will be pubblished on
web pages of SOTTOCOSTA and MAREMOTU. Results
The 5 members of the expedition
completed the circumnavigation of Corse island in 18 days, from 12 to 29 July.
The total distance paddled is of 548,4 km with the longher distance covered
in a day of 44,6 km. The second phase include more than
1000 km covered in Corse by car and two days of trekking in the mountains.
